| Evergreen Aviation Museum Unveils Patriots’ Plaza and Compass Rose
This “compass rose," along with a raised platform featuring the U.S. Seal and four military medallions, is positioned at the crossroads between the aviation museum, the IMAX Theater and the space museum (which is scheduled to open in 2008). This significant location will provide many opportunities for public events and an opportunity for learning about aviation navigation, U.S. history and the significance of U.S. military. The 1 p.m. dedication ceremony will include a patriotic performance by the Portland Highland Guard Police Band, posting of colors, the National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance and presentations by Congressman David Wu, CMSgt. John Rasmussen and Col. Gary Dean of the Oregon Air National Guard, and Evergreen Aviation Museum Executive Director, Jereme Coker. The program will conclude with the Dedication of the Patriots' Plaza and the retirement of colors.
It's the SUV of jets. No big deal.
The new gargantuan, colossal, super-jumbo Airbus A380, which can carry 550 passengers at 560 mph, flew to the United States this week from its European birthplace. It's the largest passenger jet ever made, and Americans didn't make it — but the U.S. reaction seems to be a collective shrug. For more than 30 years, the biggest passenger jet in international service has been Boeing Corp.'s 747, built in Washington state. The 747 has grown and comes in many configurations. One configuration can carry just over 500 passengers; a specially designed version serves as Air Force One, the president's jet. .

Civil aviation ministry policy to provide boost for cargo-based ...
New Delhi: In a move expected to provide a much-needed boost to the air cargo segment, which is yet to experience the same levels of growth as other segments of the civil aviation sector, the civil aviation ministry is framing a policy for development of airports aimed only at cargo operations. According to ministry sources, the development of such cargo-based airports is likely to attract substantial private investment. A host of private companies, including the Reliance and Tata groups, have recently shown interest in starting dedicated air cargo services. A policy addressing the cargo segment is also likely to encourage foreign participation in the sector, sources added. To help formulate the policy, the civil aviation ministry has begun the task of identifying the requirements of different sectors, including those of perishable goods as well as consumer durables.
