Millville Aviation Art on display at the Noyes Museum of Art

The Millville Army Air Field Museum (MAAFM) exhibition of aviation art entitled "Aviation Art -- The Beauty of Flight" will be displayed at the Noyes Museum of Art in Oceanville from March 20 through May 1, in their educational wing.

The theme of this display is "Thundering Warbirds," a collection of prints and lithographs illustrating the history, technology and beauty of the warbirds of World War II. All of the pieces are signed originals with many bearing signatures of WWII "Aces" who served and flew these fighters, bombers and pursuit planes during the war. The exhibit includes pieces on loan from private individuals as well as a selection from the permanent collection of the Millville Army Air Field Museum.

The Noyes Museum of Art, located at 733 Lily Lake Road in Oceanville, has a permanent collection that currently includes more that 1,300 pieces of American art, ranging from paintings and sculptures from the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as an impressive variety of more than 350 vintage waterfowl decoys.

Jumpjet Offers New BizJet Service

Jumpjet, which claims it can offer private jet travel for less than the price of an airline ticket, began enrolling members this week for service to begin on May 29. Members will be treated to first-come first-serve reservations departing from any of 12 originating cities and flying to any continental U.S. airport that is both safe and legal for business jet use. Member fees are associated with a maximum number of flights per month and guest allowances and are tiered from $1,500 to $4,000 per month. The company says the program works by "leveraging the power of numbers via a membership model and modest advance reservation requirements." The more you fly, the more the per-flight costs begin to align with first-class, business class "and even full-fare coach airline fares." However, there are rules: Jumpjetters (our term) may book only two reservations into the system at any given time and can place only one reservation per 24-hour period.

Serial Production of LCA Tejas Fighter Jet Begins

The Aeronautical Development Agency's (ADA's) prestigious but delayed Light Combat Aircraft programme crossed another important milestone on Saturday with the first of the limited series production (LSP-1) aircraft successfully undertaking its low speed taxi trial. The test will gladden the hearts of the LCA's end user - the Indian Air Force (IAF) - since the LSP aircraft are that much closer technically to the IAF's `SOP' (standard of production) requirements. The low speed taxi trial which follows the completion of equally successful ground runs, is a key precursor to the aircraft's maiden flight, which engineers say could happen within a month. "All that is now left before the maiden flight is the clearance from the Safety Test Review Board and two high speed taxi trials."Though the eight LSP aircraft, along with the two technical demonstrators (TDs) and five prototypes vehicles (PVs), are part of the LCA's flight test programme, they are just a step away from the actual series production aircraft which will fly in the IAF's combat squadrons.

Military trainers review: Boeing

Boeing's T-45 Goshawk - an extensive development of the BAE Systems Hawk advanced jet trainer - is increasingly appearing on the export stage, with the US manufacturer now pursuing active opportunities with the Greek and Israeli air forces and the Indian navy.

The US Navy has pledged to continue development of the Goshawk until 2035, and will use the latest T-45C model to train its future pilots for the single-seat Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. The service has amassed over 700,000 flight hours and over 50,000 arrested landings with the type since the T-45A entered service in 1992, and currently flies 70,000h a year with its expanding fleet.

30 years service

Each T-45 is expected to have a service life of 30 years at 600h a year, or a maximum airframe life of 21,600h.
